Body Composition Scans

A SECA medical-grade scan measures muscle, fat, water, and visceral fat in a few minutes, so you can track the progress a regular scale can't see.

What is a SECA body composition scan?

SECA is a leading medical-grade technology that uses bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) to provide a detailed look at your body composition. In just a few minutes, the scan measures:

  • Body fat percentage
  • Muscle mass
  • Visceral fat (fat stored around organs that impacts health risk)
  • Water balance
  • Basal metabolic rate (how many calories you burn at rest)

The scan is noninvasive, painless, and safe, with results available immediately.

Why body composition matters

Two people can weigh the same but have very different body compositions. That’s why tracking fat and muscle is often more important than tracking weight alone. Body composition scans help you:

  • Track fat loss vs. muscle gain: even if the scale doesn’t change
  • Identify hidden health risks like high visceral fat
  • Measure progress during weight loss, hormone therapy, or fitness training
  • Personalize nutrition and exercise strategies for better results
  • Stay motivated with visible, trackable improvements

Who can benefit from a SECA scan?

Anyone. You do not have to be a PrecisionMD patient to get a scan. Scans are especially useful for:

  • Weight loss patients: Track fat and muscle changes during your program
  • Hormone therapy patients: Monitor body composition as balance improves
  • Athletes and active adults: Optimize performance, training, and recovery
  • Anyone interested in wellness: Understand what’s happening beyond the scale
